One extended cruise around the Land Down Under is being halted days after the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the group for a break. The vessel sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the crew became aware the woman was missing.

A large-scale hunt located her body the following day.

Authorities are examining the incident, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and personnel on the vessel were notified that the rest of the cruise had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a full refund, and said the company was working "to arrange the travel back of the passengers via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an updated statement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Master" preventing any additional guests from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the liner in the Australian city upon its coming back.

Chronology of Incidents

The ship initially left the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the point of the 80-year-old's death. The remote island was the first stop on the itinerary.

Guests on the ship - who generally pay large sums of dollars to take part in the cruise - were transported there for a daily excursion with the possibility of walking or snorkelling.

The offspring of the victim said that her family was "shocked and distressed that the vessel left the location after an planned excursion without my mother".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mother as an "active 80-year-old" who was a member of a walking group.

"Based on limited information we have been told, it seems that there was a lapse of responsibility and ordinary reasoning," she mentioned.

She further stated that she desired the investigation would be able to determine what "the company should have performed that might have saved Mum's being".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a very hot period, and mother fell ill on the uphill trek," she explained.

"She was asked her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the boat left, reportedly without conducting a headcount.

"At some stage in that sequence, or not long after, she passed away, without company."

Organization Response

Via official communication, the Head confirmed that the operator was "working closely with authorities to aid their inquiry".

He stated that the organization was "very regretful that this has transpired" and had provided its complete assistance to the loved ones.
